The Brother HL 1230 printer brings laser technology to the home and was designed specifically for home use. This printer can connect to any computer running Windows 95 or high operating system. Customers have also been able to connect it to Linux operating systems. This printer produces high quality printouts using black and white laser technology. It has a re solution of 600 x 600 dpi and can produce up to 12 pages per minute.

The HL 1230 can print on legal and A4 size paper as well as labels, bonds, transparencies and card stock. It is a monochromatic printer with a paper tray that holds up to 250 sheets. The printer has 2MB of RAM and is about 14.5 inches in width. It is a great compact model that can fit unobtrusively into the smallest of spaces.

This printer is very easy to use as it has a clear user manual as well as step-by-step setup instructions. If you have any problems you can directly connect to the Brothers website and receive help. When the printer is not in use it will go into power save mode after 90 seconds. It takes only seconds for the printer to go back into use when needed. The printer uses a parallel port cable to hook up to your computer.

The toner cartridge can last for up to 10 months or depending on use 3,000 pages. This model does not have quite as cutting edge technology as many of the other Brothers product but it was well designed for home and personal use. The HL 1230 printer can print on photo matte paper, glossy photo paper, and other multipurpose papers. The type of connection cable you use is important as some may not work. The Belkin 10' parallel cable, Belkin 17ft Ethernet patch cable, Belkin serial cable, Belkin 6' IEEE 1284 Bi-directional parallel cable, and Belkin 10' parallel cable can all be used to connect your printer to your computer.

As long as your operating system is Windows 95 or later then you should not have any problems hooking the printer up. If you need to update your drivers the Brothers website has all drivers for each operating system. The website also provides a lot of trouble-shooting and answers to common problems.

Customers have had a few issues with the printer as they do not know how to reset the printer, do not know how to determine what is wrong when the alarm light is on and don't realize that drivers need to be updated when you update your computers operating system.
